First year of racing and is starting to break into the top 20 at both Scottish and UK level.

Good to see lots of other club members taking part in various races over the year

TTs:

  • Average of 8 riders per event (7 rounds)
  • Most popular being the Commando TT which had 13 on both occasions (
  • first and the last event)
  • Thanks to Emma P  for organising TTs (and winning series!)

Winter League 24/25:

  • Averaging just under 25 per round (7 rounds)
  • Duror and Sutherlands Grove having turnouts of 29 each
  • Good mix of venues all over (Wolft, Du, Suth, Achad, Strontian, NR)
  • Massive thanks to Marian for organising the last ? years and Lance for taking it on (he seems to have everyone whipped into good shape already)

Other thankyous:

  • Andy has compiled all the points tables for winter leagues, tts and also organises the Christmas Handicap
  • And to everyone else on the committee who have put in a lot of time helping with every aspect of the club from races / pumptrack / events / baking / etc.
  • Doug for organising the f2f (even with a mechanical)
  • Mel and Steph ( for organising ladies pumptrack sessions): Sessions went well with increased numbers each session ( 2  / 9 / 15) Sessions funded through Scottish Cycling women and girls fund. Jacqui Parfitt proposed that some of fund money was used to pay the bike park for the use of lights at these sessions, unanimous agreement, bike park to invoice us.

Bike and Blether:

  • Goes from strength to strength, thanks to Jacqui for leading on that. Really important to have social rides that provide a relaxed environment and everyone can join regardless of  level and feel comfortable doing so
  • NR have also passed on their thanks for the  boost in coffee and cake sales on a Saturday afternoon…

Wednesday Nights:

Thanks to Henry for organising these. They have been going very well with lots of good 

venues.

5 – Treasurer’s report GB

Bank balance has increased over the year from just over £10,000 to £13,800. 

We received a grant from the Lochaber Sports Association towards our new club gazebo

The main expenditure has been ongoing training to keep leaders upto date with first aid 

And training up new level 2 leaders

We have also bought timing chips which have already been put to good use

Accounts are attached at end of minutes

DP thanked Gill for keeping on top of accounts 

6 – Kids Club report CAK

Currently 61 kids attending club and a waiting list. 

Current session finishes on 6th Dec and restarts after Easter

The organising group will keep an eye on weather and snow conditions over the winter term

Good range of ages attending from 8 to 15

New Leaders qualified

Hope to get an extra group started in April

Lots of the club kids entered the trail blazers enduro

7 – Election of office bearers and committee

• Chairman  Dave Parfitt proposed Norman Clark, seconded Marian Austin

• Secretaries –  official secretary  Marian Austin proposed Gregor Muir and seconded Dave Parfitt

• Treasurer Gill Barnes Proposed Gregor Muir seconded Marian Austin

• Membership Jacqui Parfitt proposed Marian Austin, seconded Norman Clark

• Junior rep it was discussed that a small group of kids getting together after kids club might be less intimidating, Claire Abernethy Kennedy and Gregor Muir agreed to coordinate this

  • General members Norman Clark, Claire Abernethy Kennedy, Mark Clark, Steve Bradley and Doug Little all agreed to remain on the committee. Henry Cairns agreed to remain on the committee and continue with social media/ emails etc and organising Wednesday nights

8 – AOCB

Andy Rogers said that Emma Pearce had offered to continue to run time trials 

Lance Marshall is organising the winter league

Memberships subs.. It was agreed to keep these at same price

WHW committee meeting Thurs 2nd Oct 25 @ 1930:

2. Minutes of last meeting / actions: 

Weds Night Rides  Achaderry was good, plan a social ride for the next calendar block (glen nevis or nevis range HC to action)

– Winter League (LM) 

LM has proposed a series of races. Has not confirmed dates yet with organisers, dates discussed as follows: 

  • Can we bring 1st race (nov 23rd) forward as clashes with LAC and DP not available?  HC could organise this on 16th nov (cour loop) instead
  • Duror date 7th Dec Ben Miller tbc
  • Memorial date (21st Dec) clashes with usual xmas handicap date, Andy has offered to do xmas handicap again therefore ? change this date to Sunday 28th Dec (DP and DL to organise) 
  • 18th Jan North face loop Zeemon Erhardt organising .. clashes with LAC puggy line plod race so not ideal ? change to 11th to avoid clash8th Feb 
  • Ariundle oakwood KB organising tbc
  • 1st march NACC tbc
  • 15th March Achaderry tbc
  • 5th April Wolftrax .. is easter sunday therefore need to change as wolftrax are  unlikely to want us on this date as will be busy ?29th March instead

Running races under SOAC (max 30) 

CAK to email kids club parents to see if any interest for a kids winter league 

– Kids Club (CAK / GM)  having to cancel uplift day due to forecast storm, in general club going well, 50ish kids, the waiting list is reducing. More adults have completed Level 2

Pumptrack (GM) race went well as part of saturday kids club. timing equipment worked well. BMX bowl would benefit from improvements, quote for £10000, HIE will  possibly offer £5000 , £2500 from velosolutions and hopefully funding from Breedon. Bank balance ticking over with donations. 

The wheelers have got £1200 funding for womens sport and are using some of it to pay Mel and Steph to run womens only sessions at the pumptrack, 1st one already happened. Any remaining funds will go to running trail sessions for women

L2 Assessments plus first aid (DP) succesful level 2 assessment ran 

Booked conference room at Nevis Range for £50 a day for weekend 29/30th Nov to run a 1st aid course  Nevis Medics running it

2nd course running in conjunction with nevis canoe club 14/15 nov

10 members booked on to the 2 courses over the 2 weekends

– Shed Maintenance unfortunately Nevis Range have plans for old high wire hut, DP will ask if we can have temporary use.

CAK to ask Stewart to fix shed roof, club has money for this, if decent period of weather DL will try and varnish it. 

3. Just Go (CAK) 

System now running quite well to keep track of all new members PVGs etc

Has everyone down as never a member of british cycling and CAK is chasing this up

CAK and MA getting emails regarding affiliation hoping it will make it simpler. CAK will see how gets on

JP to send email asking if anyone would like to declare a disability and to encourage any members of british cycling to complete the just go link that was sent

4. LTA (MC)  MC messaged asking if any possibility of WHW helping out LTA with annual funding to contribute towards insurance and maintainence of hand tools .. MC not present.. Agreed need proposal of what money is being requested which we can then discuss in more detail .. Action reply to MC as above

MC asking that dig days are added to website/ newsletter . currently calender on website not being used but can send out info in newsletters..  MC To email HC if has info to send out in newsletter

Laggan dig crew are going to put out dates for digs, still struggling to sort out becoming a satellite dig crew of Badenoch and Strathspey trail association, could potentially be satellite with LTA but Wolftrax have some reservations..  Being discussed!

5. F2F (DL) 

Permission given, may be forestry work at well of seven heads but not sure of date yet. There will be a diversion if there is but will be a bit steep for bikes but this can be pushed if required

Date 26th October starting 10am meeting at Moorings carpark riding Fort william to Fort augustus

Registration 9.30 £5 to go to LMRT

Dirt Crit 

No recent communication from Scottish Cycling

Nevis Range are running kids enduros which are free for wheelers kids and they ran a successful 10 under the ben junior which has meant kids racing has / is happening locally although no dirt crit currently planned

Laggan Dam time trial – 03/06/25

Well done to the 5 hardy souls who took part in last night’s Laggan Dam TT. Fair to say that the weather conditions were more akin to the Winter League than Summer Time Trials. That said, they did avail of a brief weather window between the hailstone squalls! Many apologies to Olivia for not describing the course more accurately, leading to her turning around one layby too soon after the dam!

Kid's Club

kid’s club pumptrack race – 17/05/25

today’s kid’s club and the first ever race held at the pumptrack. As well as competing in timed laps, the riders attended 4 other stations- a bunny hop/jump station, the skatepark/BMX bowl, trying out all the various adaptive bikes and litter picking ( 5 big bags of litter were collected which is good or bad depending upon how you look at it!) A prize-giving ceremony was followed by plentiful hot dogs ( think Cory got the award for eating the most!) More races are planned for later in the year.Thanks are due to all of the riders for their enthusiasm and to everyone that helped with the various activities.
